Investigators were still looking into what sparked a fire that heavily damaged a city home late Friday.

Roger Sigular, battalion chief with the Jamestown Fire Department, said no cause of the fire at 52 McKinley Ave. has been determined. Passersby spotted smoke coming from the property around 9 p.m. and called 911.

Sigular said crews arrived to find fire coming from the first floor ceiling and in the walls on the second floor. The fire eventually reached the home’s attic.

One occupant was able to get out of the property before city firefighters arrived. Two pets, a dog and a cat, however, died as a result of the fire.

Additional crews were called in to assist. Investigators were on scene until about 3 a.m.

Due to extensive damage caused by the fire, Sigular said the property is not likely habitable.
