A new building will be constructed on the site of the former Tastee Corners & Cafe in the Southside Plaza.

On Tuesday, the city Planning Commission approved the site plan for the new 3,337-square-foot building. David Rhinehart, Clark Patterson Lee associate, presented the plans to the commission.

He said the new building is planned to have three units, however, he said that could change depending on who leases space in the structure. He added that the owners of the southern half of the Southside Plaza were waiting for city officials to approve the site plan before trying to attract potential businesses owners.

Rhinehart told the commission that Southside Plaza officials will reach out to the ownership of Robo Enterprises, who operated the Tastee Corners & Cafe, to see if they would be interested in leasing space in the new building.

Along with the new building, greenspace will be added around the property, which will include the addition of trees. Rhinehart said there will even be space potentially for a patio area. The new building will have sidewalks, parking, storm drainage and related appurtenances.

Last December, the former Tastee Corners & Cafe building was demolished. The Tastee Corners business, which started in 1953, closed at the end of October last year.
