KENNEDY — A woman suffered serious burns in a fire that broke out early Monday.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office said 66-year-old Linda Hammerbeck was flown to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo after being burned in her mobile home at 2 Munson Road in the town of Poland.

Firefighters from Kennedy and Frewsburg were called around 6:40 a.m. after a neighbor spotted the blaze. Hammerbeck and another person were home when the fire broke out but managed to escape.

Hammerbeck was treated at the scene before she was taken by Alstar EMS to UPMC Chautauqua in Jamestown and later flown to Buffalo.

The other person was not injured.

The owner of the property, Bryan Champlin, said he rushed over after being made aware of the blaze.

“I’m just glad they all got out alive,” Champlin told The Post-Journal at the scene. “It looks like it is a total loss.”

The Chautauqua County Fire Investigation Team remained on scene for several hours. The cause of the fire has not been determined, the Sheriff’s Office said Monday evening.

The investigation remains ongoing.
