There is a new map to help people find and follow the Greater Jamestown Riverwalk throughout the city.

On Monday, city officials gathered by one of the new maps that have been placed in six informational kiosks found along the Riverwalk. Joining city officials was Gary Peters Jr., who produced the map at his business Fresh Press Studios.

The map has the Riverwalk trail colored in purple. The Riverwalk starts by the Jamestown Area Medical Associates-Great Lakes Physician Practice at the Riverwalk Center located along South Main Street. The Riverwak than goes parallel along both the north and south shores of the Chadakoin River, which also includes two pedestrian bridges that cross the waterway.

From around the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities, pedestrians and bike riders can continue on the Riverwalk along Steele Street. For those heading west on Steele Street, the Riverwalk path will take travelers to a new playground below the Third Street Bridge. From there, pedestrians can continue to travel along Steele Street to the Sixth Street Bridge.

Pedestrians can also head along the Riverwalk trail by heading toward Third Street by going through Comedy Center Park and up the stairs on the west side of the National Comedy Center. From there, people can walk by Northwest Arena to Third Street. After going west on Third Street, people can continue on the Riverwalk west of the West Gate Plaza, which will take people to McCrea Point Park.

The Riverwalk also has a bike trail that goes from near the scrap metal business Ben Weitsman of Jamestown to Clifton Avenue near D&S Glass.

“We want people to find it and follow it,” Teresi said about the Riverwalk map. “This version is more visually appealing and helpful because there is more information.”

Along with the map, Teresi said city officials will be adding more Riverwalk signage and additional pavement markers so people know when they’re on the trail.

Peters said the map installed in the Riverwalk kiosks is the third version of the map, which had to be redone a few times to include additional features that were added to the trail, like the two pedestrian bridges last year.

In the future, Teresi said additional information can be added to the map as new aspects are created along the Riverwalk. He said the map can also be viewed online by going to the city’s website at jamestownny.net. He added that city parks funding paid for the production of the maps and the kiosks were paid for through state grants that assisted in funding the Riverwalk project.

Teresi said Quick Solutions Printing produced the maps and the city traffic department laminated them.

There are also several informational kiosks located in downtown Jamestown, Teresi said. He said the ones located along the Riverwalk are controlled by the city’s Parks Department. He added the ones downtown that are not along the Riverwalk are controlled by the Jamestown Renaissance Corp.

Teresi said if people would like to insert community information into the Riverwalk kiosks they should contact Julia Ciesla-Hanley, city recreational coordinator, at 483-7523. He said if people would like to insert information into the downtown kiosk they should contact the JRC at 664-2477.
