The Jamestown Board of Public Utilities 20th annual Cents for St. Susan’s campaign finished its two-month effort with a total of $19,465 raised for the local soup kitchen.

That brings the 20-year total of funds raised by the community during the BPU’s “Cents for St. Susan’s” campaigns to $234,956.39.

Major sponsors and volunteers met recently at St. Susan Center to reveal the amount raised through the community fund drive.

BPU and St. Susan Center personnel were on hand for the announcement to thank major sponsors and volunteers including KeyBank at the $2,000 level; Kwik-Fill and Judy and Steve McAllaster at the $1,000 level; Alfie’s Restaurant, Boyles Motor Sales, Century 21/Turner Brokers, Chautauqua Chemicals Co., Inc., Falconer Printing and Design, Inc., FreedMaxick Accountants, Heritage Ministries, The Legend Group with Lou Deppas, National Fuel, Northwest Bank, Shults Auto Group, Slone-Melhuish Insurance, Weinberg Financial Group, and Wright Wright and Hampton Attorneys at the $500 level.

Media sponsors included The Post-Journal and the Media One Group of Radio Stations.

“We are grateful to the Jamestown BPU for its efforts to help local people by raising funds for St. Susan Center,” said Bonny Scott-Sleight, St. Susan Center executive director.

“Each year, we see our number of guests rising and we must seek ways to feed our increased numbers of visitors. Luckily for us, groups in the community such as the BPU find different ways to assist us throughout the year. The BPU fund drive provides a sizeable boost to our budget each year and we thank them.”

BPU General Manager David L. Leathers thanked the generous sponsors as well as those people in the community who donated to once again raise a significant amount of money for the soup kitchen.

“In addition to our major sponsors,” Leathers said, “many people throughout the area donated to the coin canisters, gave redeemable containers, contributed at tag days at Brigiotta’s and Walmart, mailed in contributions and purchased food at our annual hot dog sale at the utility. It is amazing to see the community support this annual fund drive to help feed people in need.”

“This amount raised for St. Susan Center could not have come about without customers and residents helping us,” said BPU communications coordinator Becky Robbins, who organizes the drive. “Both the BPU and the St. Susan Center appreciate the contributions from the community. We thank you.”
