4 Allegany County Teens Killed In Crash

BURNS — Three students from the Dansville Central School District and another teenager lost their lives after a one-vehicle collision early Saturday in Allegany County.

At about 4:32 a.m., New York State troopers out of Amity and Troop E barracks responded to the incident on County Route 13C in the town of Burns.

An investigation revealed that a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee with five occupants traveling eastbound on County Route 13C allegedly failed to stop for a stop sign at the T-intersection of County Route 13C and County Route 13, traveling through the intersection striking a tree then coming to rest in an earth embankment.

The front seat passenger, Kelsi A. Bird, 16, of Dansville was taken by Mercy Flight helicopter to Strong Memorial Hospital for multiple non-life-threatening injuries. Bird was reportedly the only person wearing a seat belt during the collision, state police said.

The operator, Rebecca L. Earner, 16, of Dansville, and the other three occupants, Ambra E. Eddleton, 16, Justin D. Carpenter, 14, and Kyrstin L. Wolfanger, 14, all of Dansville, were all pronounced dead at the scene.

Dansville Central School Superintendent Dr. Paul J. Alioto sent a statement out for students and families who are impacted with this tragic loss. Counselors will be at hand to assist in grief sharing, according to the district’s web site.

“We are deeply saddened to share the tragic news that three Dansville High School students lost their lives early Saturday morning in a motor vehicle accident,” the notice said. “A fourth DHS student involved in the accident is reported to be in stable condition at Strong Hospital and is expected to survive. A fifth victim who died was not a DHS student.

“School leaders and counselors will be on hand at DHS on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday to support our students, families and employees.”

New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Collision Reconstruction Unit, the Dansville Central School superintendent, Canaseraga, Almond, Nunda Fire Companies, Dansville ALS and Hornell ALS assisted in this investigation.
