Road Reopening

The $4.2 million county project, of which the federal government funded 80 percent, included the rehabilitation of the bridge in addition to new bridge walls, approaches and asphalt paving. P-J photo by Dennis Phillips

The South Main Street Bridge has reopened, again. The bridge was closed for a second time earlier this month to complete the top course asphalt paving surface on the bridge.

Other work included the installation of a crosswalk for the Riverwalk trail, roadway striping and remaining landscaping.

Crews also adjusted manhole covers and utility risers along with miscellaneous milling. Bridge work done earlier this month included installing tops to the concrete bridge walls. The tops, which weigh about 400 to 500 pounds each, were put into place using a forklift.
