RANDOLPH — A trio of teenagers from the Randolph Children’s Home have been charged with grand larceny, burglary and criminal mischief for allegedly breaking into the Randolph Central School District bus garage, stealing a small bus and driving it to Jamestown.

The bus was found in front of a Clinton Street residence near West Eighth Street on Monday morning after the three children had seemingly driven approximately 17 miles from the bus’ original location. The Randolph Central School District and Randolph Children’s Home did not return calls for comment.

Cattaraugus County sheriff’s deputies were called to investigate the garage and Randolph Central School at 8 a.m. Monday after school officials realized one of the buses had been stolen overnight.

Law enforcement later learned that the trio allegedly ran away from the children’s home, broke into the facilities and gained control of the bus.

All three children were taken into custody without incident and charged with two counts of third-degree burglary, second-degree grand larceny and third-degree criminal mischief. The teenagers were a 17-year-old male, 16-year-old male and 14-year-old female.

The 17-year-old is being held in the Cattaraugus County Jail on $5,000 bail, and the others were remanded to the East Ferry Juvenile Detention Center. They are scheduled to appear in court at later dates.
