Salamanca Man, 22, Pleads Guilty To DWI, After Crash

SALAMANCA — A Salamanca man has pleaded guilty to a November 2017 drunken driving crash that killed a passenger.

Damion R. Taylor, 22, of Jimerson Road, was indicted on charges of second-degree manslaughter, leaving the scene of an incident without reporting serious injury, second-degree vehicular manslaughter, first-degree reckless endangerment, criminally negligent homicide and driving while intoxicated. Taylor pleaded guilty to all the charges recently in Cattaraugus County Court, the DA’s office announced Thursday.

The crash occurred around 11:50 p.m. on Nov. 18, 2017, on Old Route 17 in the town of Salamanca. Det. Timothy Pence of the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office said at the time that four occupants were inside the vehicle driven by Taylor when the crash occurred. Two passengers were transported to the hospital with undisclosed injuries; 21-year-old Alexandrea Kindt of Salamanca was killed.

Taylor was reportedly uninjured in the crash.

“We believe reckless operation was part of the accident,” Pence told The Post-Journal in November.

According to the Cattaraugus County District Attorney’s Office, Taylor was intoxicated at the time of the crash. He is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 15.

The DA’s office had no further comment on the guilty plea when reached Thursday.
