Mayville Man Charged After Search Nets Drugs, Cash

Charles H. Baker Jr.

MAYVILLE — A Mayville man is facing several drug charges after members of the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force and county SWAT team executed a search warrant at his Blanchard Street home Saturday.

Police had entered the home of 64-year-old Charles H. Baker Jr. around 1 a.m. on warrants for third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance.

The warrants were based on information gathered by the drug task force, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release Tuesday. Police had been investigating the trafficking of methamphetamine by Baker at the time of his arrest.

Baker was arraigned in Chautauqua Town Court and remanded to county jail without bail. Additional charges were expected, the Sheriff’s Office said.

During a search of his Blanchard Street residence, police seized methamphetamine, packaging material, scales, marijuana and cash. Baker was additionally charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree criminal use of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of marijuana.

The Sheriff’s Office asks anyone who witnesses suspicious narcotics-related activity to call 800-344-8702 or 363-0313.
