CASSADAGA — Scores of people shed cabin fever from Feb. 9-11 and enjoyed varied indoor and outdoor activities for the second annual Cassadaga Winter Festival.

Friends and neighbors were glad to visit and catch up with each other after being “snowbound” for much of the winter.

On Friday evening, families enjoyed the movie “Frozen” and free popcorn at the Park Church. On Saturday, at Cassadaga Library, the Audubon Society presented two shows with live turtles, a tree frog and to the dismay of some — a snake.

The Cub Scouts held a bake sale and children also participated in making crafts in the Children’s Room. Boy Scout Troop No. 219 invited all to come sledding and sponsored a snowman contest at Cassadaga Country Club. Free hot chocolate and cookies were also on hand in the club house.

The Cassadaga Lakes Association provided wagon rides around the lake. Winter games and a historical walking tour of Lily Dale wrapped up Saturday afternoon. A “Snow Ball” was held at the Cassadaga Legion Post No. 1280 Saturday evening with many people dancing to the sounds of Big Tone. The Kiwanis pancake breakfast was held Sunday morning with a cornhole tournament at Cassadaga Legion in the afternoon.

The group cross country ski scheduled to take place that afternoon with Boutwell Hill Cross-country Ski Club was cancelled due to rain. Jojo Asian Cafe, Cassadaga Country Club, Cassadaga Shurfine and Whiskey Hill Saloon also participated in the festivities by offering specials all weekend.

The Citizens for a Better Cassadaga thanked everyone who helped make the second annual Cassadaga Winter Festival a huge success.
