Three Children Injured Sunday After Vehicle Leaves Road

Three children were seriously injured Sunday after a vehicle veered off a road in the town of Freedom and struck a parked car and multiple pedestrians.

The incident occurred shortly after 4 p.m., when Richard J. Neamon Jr., 18, of Freedom, reportedly left Route 98 and collided into a Dodge Caravan parked off the side of the road.

Two child passengers, ages 3 and 4, sustained serious injuries, the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office reported Tuesday.

Three pedestrians, ages 2, 39, and 42, were also struck and sustained serious injuries.

All three children were transported to Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo. The two adult pedestrians were taken to Erie County Medical Center.

Neamon was taken to Mercy Hospital and later released with minor injuries.

An investigation into what caused the accident is still pending, according to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office.
