KENNEDY — Beautiful weather, great food, fun event and some really good music made Sunday in the Park a big success. Local musicians “Steel Rails” brought their talents to Hallquist Park to provide an entertaining concert and to help raise money for the Kennedy Free Library. Their blend of country, blues and rock kept toes tapping and faces smiling during the three-hour concert. They performed their own original music from their new, self-titled CD, as well as covering other well-known favorites.

Audience members were very pleased to hear the talented local duo, whose skill on their instruments and vocals blended into a harmony that carried their enthusiasm to the crowd.

Local bakers more than answered the call for homemade pies. It was hard to choose from the wide variety of this favorite dessert. With hot dogs and beverages available, attendees could have a great meal while enjoying the afternoon. Assistant librarian Diane Carey used her artistic talents for face painting, and balloons were available as well.

Library Director Maggie Ruth was pleased with the turnout for this first-time event. The Kennedy Free Library is one of the fastest growing in the system, and it is due to the support of the community. Ruth said she hopes to make this an annual event.
