Bemus Point Library To Host Free Fire Safety Event

BEMUS POINT – During a season of heating appliances and wood stoves, fire safety is an important topic.

On Thursday, the Bemus Point Library is co-hosting a fire safety event for families, alongside the Bemus Point volunteer fire department, from 6-7 p.m., marking the second year the event has taken place.

According to Kathleen McCarthy, library director, Steve Hayes, Bemus Point volunteer fire department chief, will attend the event as a fire safety speaker, as well as other volunteer firefighters. The library and the fire department both being community-oriented brought about the partnership, McCarthy said.

Activities will include a book reading for younger children and discussion of using proper smoke detectors, planning escape routes and ways to heat safely.

“The kids will learn how to be safe in their house, which is very important,” McCarthy said.

The event will take place at the Bemus Point Library, 13 Main St., Bemus Point. The library asks for those planning on attending to call and register, 386-2274.
