Play ball … for fun and a good cause.

The Jamestown Old Timers baseball team, with many members from Warren County, and members of the Jamestown Police Department will face off in a charity baseball game at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Russell Diethrick Park in Jamestown. Gates open at 6 p.m.

The price of admission is $5 with all proceeds donated to the Tim Hortons Cafe and Bake Shop Camp Day Foundation.

“We are very excited to team up with our local Tim Hortons and the Tarana family to raise money for the Camp Day Foundation,” JPD Lt. Rob Bender said. “The Taranas do a lot for our community and this is a small way to help them and their business raise money to send kids to camp.”

“We think it’s a great foundation and a worthwhile cause — giving back to our community’s youth by sending them to camp,” Bender said. “It gives them the opportunity to experience the outdoors, learn new skills, and build friendships and self-confidence.”

“The Old Timers have been supporting youth baseball in the Jamestown area for over 58 years,” Team President Ron Thomas of Warren said. “It is our pleasure to help the Jamestown Police Department’s fund-raising efforts.”

“It’s going to be a lot of fun to get out there and play a charity baseball game against the Jamestown Old Timers,” Bender said. “We really appreciate them taking the time to help us out.”

“The Jamestown Police Department will also have officers at the four Jamestown Tim Hortons locations from 7 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, to help serve coffee and raise money for Camp Day,” Bender said.
