There is some good news and bad news when it comes to COVID-19 and Western New York. Through Saturday, nearly 30,000 Chautauqua County residents have received their second dose of the vaccine.

Positivity rates in the region, however, are the highest in the state. According to Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office, in Western New York the positivity rate is 4.82% — that’s above the Empire State average of 3.31.

As for vaccines, 46,586 have received a first dose in the county — 36.4% — with 29,110 receiving a second dose.

The county rate is just below the state average for vaccinations at 36.9%.

“New York continues to ramp up its vaccination program by expanding eligibility and opening new pop-up sites that bring the COVID-19 vaccine directly to the communities hit hardest by the pandemic,” Cuomo said in his daily press release. “However, it will take a concerted effort to stay vigilant and follow the state’s public health guidance to slow the spread and get us to the light at the end of the tunnel.”
