Washington Middle School in Jamestown briefly went into a shelter-in-place Thursday morning due to a despondent student.

Officers with the Jamestown Police Department and Alstar EMS responded to the 159 Buffalo St. school around 9 a.m. Several officers, along with the department’s comfort dog, could be seen on school grounds.

Jamestown police said the student was secured and taken from the school for an evaluation. “No other students were in danger during this incident,” said Capt. Robert Samuelson.

In a statement to parents, the Jamestown Public Schools District said, “JPS has learned that Washington Middle School issued a shelter-in-place today shortly after 9 a.m. due to a student medical situation. The Jamestown Police Department was called due to a report of a despondent student. There were no other students in danger. The situation was resolved shortly before 10 a.m. The safety of our students remains our number one priority.”
