State Notes 3 Additional County COVID Deaths

New York state reported three new COVID-related deaths today in Chautauqua County.

The Health Department, which does not update figures on weekends, reported a total of 47 deaths through Thursday with 5,424 total cases.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo also noted an additional case of the UK variant was identified in Tompkins County. To date, there are 17 known cases of the variant in the state.

“New York is fighting to beat back COVID as we distribute the limited vaccine available as quickly as possible,” Cuomo said. “We’re deploying all the tools in our toolbox–making sure hospitals have enough capacity and conducting ever-higher numbers of tests–to keep New Yorkers as safe as possible. But our actions as individuals and as communities to stay socially distanced, wear masks and wash our hands are of vital importance, as is the willingness of local governments to enforce the rules. When communities decide to slow the spread, it will slow down. It’s purely a function of our actions.”

Cattaraugus County reported 86 new cases over the last two days with 505 active. There have been 3,296 total cases, 2,725 recoveries with 52 currently hospitalized.
