UPDATE: Westfield Blaze Blamed On Grease Fire

WESTFIELD — Chautauqua County Sheriff’s investigators say a grease fire is to blame for the blaze that occurred this afternoon at the KISS BBQ restaurant.

Westfield and several area fire departments responded to the scene. The Chautauqua County Fire Investigation team conducted an investigation that revealed that a grease fire had started in the exhaust duct work and spread to combustibles in the attic.

The restaurant had been closed for renovations but planning to re-open Thursday. There were no injuries reported during the fire. This fire has been ruled accidental in nature.

Besides Westfield, Portland, Ripley and Sherman were on the scene at 7454 E. Route 20.

A statement from the restaurant was posted to its Facebook page: “It is with extreme sadness that I write this to say the BBQ burned to the ground today around noon just as we were putting the finishing touches of paint on the front door and cooking food to reopen tomorrow. Everyone is OK. The building is a total loss.

“We are not sure where to go or what the future holds at this very moment. Please remain patient as we assess where to go from here.”
