An officer with the Jamestown Police Department suffered minor injuries when he was pushed down stairs after responding Saturday night to a report of a man who had stabbed himself in front of young children.

In a news release, Jamestown police say they were called around 8:40 p.m. to a residence at 149 Superior St. for an “out of control male that stabbed himself with a knife.” The incident took place in view of three children.

Police said 24-year-old Bryce C. Stahlman was intoxicated and combative with officers. At one point, the city resident reportedly pushed an officer down the stairs, causing minor injuries.

“Stahlman was combative the entire time until officers were able to get him into custody,” JPD said in its news release. Stahlman was taken to UPMC Chautauqua for an evaluation and later released to the custody of police.

The city resident was being held for arraignment on charges of second-degree obstructing governmental administration, three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.

The officer was treated at UPMC Chautauqua and later released.
