ASHVILLE — A Williamsville man attending a Victim Impact Panel for those convicted of any driving while intoxicated-related offense is facing charges after sheriff’s deputies say he showed up after consuming alcohol.

David J. Coffed, 45, was taken to Chautauqua County Jail on Wednesday shortly after arriving to the meeting at the Ashville BOCES in the town of North Harmony.

Meetings consist of panelists who share stories of losing loved ones in drunken driving incidents. Anyone convicted on a DWI charge is required to attend a Victim Impact Panel.

Those attending are required to perform a pre-screen alert test to assure they have not consumed alcohol.

The Sheriff’s Office said Coffed tested positive for consuming alcohol during his test. He was taken into custody on charges of felony driving while intoxicated, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle without a court ordered interlock device.

A check of his blood alcohol level determined it was more than the legal limit. His driver’s license was also found to have been revoked from two prior DWI convictions.

The Williamsville man was processed and held for arraignment at the jail.
