An emergency demolition has been ordered for a building damaged by fire in June 2017.

Vince DeJoy, Jamestown director of development, on Wednesday ordered the demolition of 24 N. Main St. “due to extensive fire damage causing an imminent public safety threat.”

The building, a one-story structure, once housed the Arcade Shoe Store located between the railroad tracks and the multi-story Arcade building.

A fire broke out June 20, 2017, causing heavy damage to the property.

HH Rauh will perform the emergency demolition process, beginning in the rear of the building and working toward North Main Street.

DeJoy said the project will cause temporary closures of the east sidewalk and street on North Main Street between First Street and the railroad viaduct.

“The city of Jamestown asks for the public’s patience and cooperation through this demolition process,” the city said in a statement.
