MAYVILLE — Two motorists were charged with drunken driving and 20 other vehicle stops were conducted during a Memorial Day holiday enforcement push.

Several agencies, including the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police, took part in the STOP-DWI Memorial Day enforcement crackdown from May 24 to May 28.

The initiative is funded by a 2018-19 grant by Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Traffic Safety Committee, and is part of a national effort to enforce laws related to driving while impaired and reduce the number of impaired drivers on the road.

Chautauqua County Sheriff Jim Quattrone said countywide enforcement netted two arrests for DWI in addition to 20 other vehicle stops, arrests and summonses.

“Removing intoxicated drivers from Chautauqua County roadways is one of our top priorities,” Quattrone said in a statement. “If you choose to drink, don’t drive. Drunk drivers not only put themselves in danger, they threaten everyone who shares the road with them.”
