(5:20 PM) Woman Wanted In Fatal Dunkirk Stabbing Jailed

DUNKIRK — A woman wanted by Dunkirk police for the fatal stabbing of a 15-year-old girl May 15 was taken into custody Wednesday.

Police announced the arrest of 26-year-old Ashlyann M. Lopez-Lopez after a warrant was issued by City Court Judge John Kuzdale. Lopez-Lopez was charged with first-degree manslaughter following an investigation by police.

Lopez-Lopez was arraigned in Dunkirk City Court, where bail was set at $500,000. She was remanded to Chautauqua County Jail.

Lopez-Lopez has been the key suspect since the May 15 incident on Lincoln Avenue that drew a crowd of at least 50 onlookers. Video of the 10-second confrontation appears to show Lopez-Lopez making a stabbing motion toward the girl near the end of the tussle.

In 2014, Lopez-Lopez was taken into custody after members the Jamestown Police Department SWAT team executed three search warrants at three separate apartments in Jamestown. She was charged with with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana and criminally using drug paraphernalia.

“The investigation into the incident is still ongoing by the City of Dunkirk Police Department and Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office,” Dunkirk police said. “Anyone with information can call the Dunkirk Police Department at 366-2266 or the tip line at 363-0313.”
