(8 AM) Winter Storm Watch Issued Through Thursday

The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a winter storm watch for Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Wyoming and southern Erie counties from tonight through Thursday afternoon. The area could see between 6 to 12 inches of lake effect snow.

The greatest accumulation is expected in the Chautauqua Ridge region, the weather service said. In addition, wind gusts could reach as high as 40 mph.

“Travel could be very difficult,” the weather service said. “The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.”

A winter weather advisory was also issued for Warren County from 1 a.m. Wednesday to 1 p.m. Thursday. The Warren area is expected to see between 3 and 5 inches of snow, with some localized spots seeing up to 8 inches.

Despite the warning, the Jamestown area is expected to see temperature in the mid-40s for much of Tuesday before snow arrives overnight.
