The Jamestown area could see up to 3 inches of rain between Sunday morning and early Tuesday, the result of former Hurricane Gordon making its way north, the Nation Weather Service predicted.

Rain is expected to move into the area Sunday and continue steadily through Monday. Much of Chautauqua County is expected to see up to 2 inches of rain, while areas such as Olean and Wellsville could see up to 4 inches of rain as a result of the now tropical storm.

Jamestown, meanwhile, is in the middle — with the National Weather Service in Buffalo predicting 2 to 3 inches of precipitation in the 48-hour span.

The weather service issued a flood watch from Sunday evening to Tuesday morning for Cattaraugus and Allegheny counties.

“Two to 3 inches of rain will fall over the region Sunday into Monday, with the steadiest and heaviest rains expected Sunday night,” the weather service said in an alert. “Heavier rainfall amounts will be possible.”

A flood watch was also issued for Warren County, Pa., from 8 p.m. Saturday through Monday evening.

Much more rain is expected to fall further south of the Southern Tier, in portions of Pennsylvania and Ohio, the Nation Weather Service said.
