In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, seniors in the cosmetology program at the Hewes Educational Center volunteered their time and skills at The Chautauqua Center in Jamestown.

The Oct. 15 event focused on raising awareness, providing mammogram screenings, and offering care and encouragement to community members affected by breast cancer.

Participating Career & Technical Education students included Addison Calimeri of Falconer; Cynthia Murray of Chautauqua Lake; Ashley Natal Guzman, Denise Williams, and Yomaris Rojas Nieves of Jamestown; Kieara Graves of Panama; Delilah Heverley of Sherman; and Kiernan Hiller, Marissa Oakes, and Riley LaPaglia of Southwestern.

Throughout the day, the students offered complimentary hairstyling, manicures, and gel manicures. Their goal was to promote self-care and confidence while showing support for those touched by breast cancer.

“Our students were honored to use their talents to support such an important cause,” said Kyla Rodriguez, Cosmetology instructor at Hewes. “This experience not only allowed them to practice their professional skills, but also reminded them of the power of compassion, confidence, and community service.”
