November Events

WESTFIELD — The Patterson Library in Westfield will host several events in November, starting with International Game Week on Nov. 9.

The library’s International Game Week event will focus on by learning how to play mah-jongg with Marcia Merrins. The class is from 2 to 4 p.m. and will be limited in size. Call the library for reservations.

At 6:30 p.m. Nov. 18, the library will host the Ekstasis 2.0 Concert, in which solo and chamber repertoire students from the State University at Fredonia will play a curated salon series of musical gems. That same night, PFLAG will be hosting a meeting in the Octagon Gallery at 6:30 p.m.

Starting Nov. 20, the library will open its new art installation “Wave/Length” by Kimberly Tunrer and Ruby Andomeda Miller in the Octagon Gallery. The artists will be hosting a gallery talk at 2 p.m. Nov. 20 and the installation will be viewable in the library until Dec. 31.

Ring in the holiday season by visiting the annual celebration “Hall of Trees” in which local individuals, businesses, and organizations decorate a forest of trees throughout the library. The event is available from noon to 4 p.m. Nov. 20-21.

On Nov. 23 at 6 p.m., author Karin Cockram will be visiting to discuss her new book release.

Monthly book clubs include:

¯ Nov. 2 at 6:30 p.m. – Bestseller’s Book Club, discussing “The Last Green Valley” by Mark Sullivan.

¯ Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. — Literary Circle, discussing “Wild Swans” by Jung Chang.

¯ Nov. 17 at 4 p.m. — Mystery Book Group, discussing “No Mark Upon Her” by Deborah Crombie.

¯ Nov. 24 at 4 p.m. — Wanderlust Book Group, discussing “Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death, and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity” by Katherine Boo.

The Patterson Library will be closed on November 25th and 26th for Thanksgiving.
