Clymer Names Students Of The First Quarter

CLYMER — The Clymer Central School District has named its “Pirate Pride” Students of the First Quarter.

During each marking period faculty members nominate students in kindergarten through third grades, fourth through sixth grades, high schoool and the senior class who are demonstrating leadership, academic improvement/excellence and service to school or community. Pirate Pride, the school’s Character Education Committee, reviews the nominations and selects one student from each of the four grade level divisions.

The kindergarten through third grade student of the first quarter is Logan Mosher, first grade and the son of Justin and Caitlyn Mosher. His favorite school activity is gym. After school, he likes to play outside. “I like to ride bike, hunt and build forts. I am really good at math and writing.” He practices kindness at home by hugging and doing his chores. When Logan grows up, he would like to become a carpenter. “Dad” is his hero because, as Logan says, “he helps me and other people and is a very good dad.” Logan was nominated and selected because he has been such a hard worker and has shown great responsibility and respect to his classmates and teachers! He has shown a lot of improvement in reading, writing, and math and strives to be the best that he can be each day.

The fourth through sixth grade Student of the First Quarter is Lincoln Pierce, fourth grade. He is the son of Andy and Sabrina Pierce. Lincoln’s favorite school activities are recess, gym and social studies. After school, he enjoys art club, spending time with family and friends, watching tv and riding his bike. His favorite hobbies are playing football, baseball, basketball and bowling. Lincoln says, “I am really good at playing video games and helping people out.” He practices kindness at home by taking care of the pigs and chickens and helping mom and dad with house chores. He would like to be an artist or semi truck driver when he grows up. When asked who his hero is, he responded, “Flash because he gets to people who need help in a snap and he does good things.” Lincoln was nominated and selected because school is not easy for Lincoln, but he is such a hard worker. He is very diligent, and will stick right with a task until he completes it. He seldom gets outwardly frustrated, and he is a good sport when he doesn’t get something right after such a good attempt.

The seventh through 11th grade student of the first quarter is Vella Evans, 11th grade. She is the daughter of Lucy Evans. In school, she is vice president of her class, on the planning committee, taking an independent art class and JCC US History. In her community she worked at the fall festival at Harvest View and Greenhouses in Fredonia. Vella’s awards include being elected vice president of her class, on honor and merit roll many times and worked really hard earning her five- and 10-year trophies in dance. She enjoys drawing, painting and dance which she has been doing for 14 years. Vella would like to attend Mercyhurst University and major in forensic anthropology. She eventually wants to work for the Smithsonian Institute. Vella was nominated and selected because she comes to class every day with eagerness to learn. She pays great attention to detail in all of her work, and routinely has outside information that ties into class lectures that aides in the learning of others. She also helps her peers on a daily basis to ensure that they understand the information.

The senior student of the first quarter is Onalya Gillispie, the daughter of Leilani and Wes Gillispie and Brittany Gerould. In school, she participates in the senior play and Student Council. In her community she works at the Dutch Village Restaurant. Her awards and recognitions include St. Bonaventure academic scholarship and on the honor roll several times. Onalya loves to read and spend time with her friends. Onalya plans on attending college and majoring in school psychology. Onalya was nominated and selected because she exemplifies all our qualities in PRIDE. She is always respectful to staff and her classmates. She is sensitive to their needs and this is part of her integrity as well.
