Reg Lenna To Screen Movies This Week

The Reg Lenna Center for the Arts will host two movies this week.

In The Many Saints of Newark (Wednesday at 7 p.m.) young Anthony Soprano is growing up in one of the most tumultuous eras in Newark’s history, becoming a man just as rival gangsters begin to rise up and challenge the all-powerful DiMeo crime family’s hold over the increasingly race-torn city. Caught up in the changing times is the uncle he idolizes, Dickie Moltisanti, who struggles to manage both his professional and personal responsibilities–and whose influence over his nephew will help make the impressionable teenager into the all-powerful mob boss we’ll later come to know: Tony Soprano. The Many Saints of Newark is rated R and is 120 minutes long.

In the cult classic special engagement The Rocky Horror Picture Show (Friday at 10 p.m.), sweethearts Brad (Barry Bostwick) and Janet (Susan Sarandon), stuck with a flat tire during a storm, discover the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Tim Curry), a transvestite scientist. As their innocence is lost, Brad and Janet meet a houseful of wild characters, including a rocking biker (Meat Loaf) and a creepy butler (Richard O’Brien). Through elaborate dances and rock songs, Frank-N-Furter unveils his latest creation: a muscular man named “Rocky.” The Rocky Horror Picture Show is rated R and is 101 minutes long. A $5 Fun Pack will be sold that includes many items to be used in the screening including rice, playing cards, glow sticks, mini-gloves and more. Strong language and a lot of shouting will be used by several audience members as is traditional with a Rocky Horror showing.

Upcoming screenings include Oscar Isaac in the crime drama The Card Counter on Nov. 3 at 7 p.m., the music documentary The Velvet Underground on Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. and the Marvel Studios adventure Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings on Nov. 13 at 8 p.m.

Tickets to Movies at The Reg are $7, with an additional $1 theater restoration fee added. They may be purchased from noon to 5 p.m. Monday and Friday and noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday at 484-7070 and online at reglenna.com. Special engagements are priced differently than Movies at The Reg. Masks are recommended for all patrons regardless of vaccination status.
