Jamestown Public Schools announced that Brad Meyers has been appointed as school safety advisor.

Meyers has over 35 years experience in law enforcement as the police chief of Fredonia and as a sergeant and police officer in the Jamestown Police Department. He will plan, develop, implement and monitor the district’s safety procedures and will also supervise the safety officers (“Red Shirts”) in the district.

“I am very pleased that we have such an experienced person taking over this role,” said JPS Superintendent Dr. Kevin Whitaker. “Mr. Meyers brings decades of public safety experience to his new role, and students and staff will benefit from that.”

Meyers will review and update the district’s safety plan on a yearly basis. In addition, he will coordinate all safety training, educational materials and provide guidance in promoting awareness on a variety of safety issues and promoting prevention programs, ensuring that JPS complies with state and federal safety regulations. Mr. Meyers will also conduct workshops with staff, students and families about important safety issues, and provide consultation and assistance for schools’ safety needs including drills, inspections and crisis response plans.

Meyers retired from law enforcement in 2021. His experience includes: police chief of the Fredonia Police Department, police sergeant and police officer with the Jamestown Police Department, police officer with the Fredonia Police Department, and a senior investigator with the Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office. Meyers was also an instructor in the criminal justice programs at Jamestown Community College and SUNY Fredonia.

Meyers graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy and received his bachelor’s degree from SUNY Fredonia. He is a member of the FBI National Academy Associates, International Association of Chiefs of Police, New York State Association of Chiefs of Police and the Chautauqua County Association of Chiefs of Police (past President). He has the New York State Certifications as Police Officer, Police Supervisor/Management, Master Police Instructor General Topics, Police Firearms Instructor and FBI Certification as Basic & Advanced Hostage Negotiator and New York State Certification Opioid Overdose and Intranasal Naloxone Training.

“After 35-years in law enforcement including 22 years as the Chief of Police in the Village of Fredonia, I look forward to the next chapter in my career as the Safety Advisor for the Jamestown Public School District,” Myers said. ” I have found the District to be filled with the most professional people I have had the pleasure to meet and work with. I feel confident we will accomplish our goals in strengthening school safety while creating an atmosphere of trust among the students and staff.”
