Rotary Clubs, Moonlight Electric Donate Books

Love Elementary School students show off their donated books.

Love Elementary School students received a surprise to start off their spring break — every child in the school received a free book thanks to the generosity of the Rotary Club of Jamestown, AM Rotary Club and Moonlight Electric.

The groups donated 350 books for the giveaway.

“We are so grateful to the AM and Lunch Rotary Clubs and to Moonlight Electric for generously donating a book to each child at Love School,” said Love Elementary School Principal Connie Foster. “This book donation was timed right — just before Spring Break — so that our students will each have a shiny, new book at their own level to read over the break. We want our students to read every day over the break, and we hope they will keep reading every day of their lives so they can find both great enjoyment from reading recreationally as well as come to appreciate all of the knowledge that can open up to them as they become lifelong readers and learners.”

David Troxwell from the Rotary Club of Jamestown contacted Mrs. Foster about a month ago to see if they could do a book giveaway for Love students. In past years, Love has teamed with the Rotary Club and Moonlight Electric to give away pajamas and a book prior to Christmas. Because of the pandemic, this event was put on hold, and then canceled for this year but the groups still wanted to give away the books. Each group, AM Rotary Club, the Rotary Club of Jamestown and Moonlight Electric donated $300 to purchase the books for students. We were so lucky to have a great partnership with the AM Rotary Club and Moonlight Electric to be able to do this for Love School. We really want to help encourage reading and by providing a free book to every child, it will give them the opportunity to have their own book to keep at home.”

Stacey Micciche, Love health and attendance clerk, and Alicia Brown, reading specialist, worked together to place the book order. Brown gathered each child’s reading level so that books could be purchased and designated for students at their particular reading levels. Micciche and Brown placed stickers with each child’s name on his/her specific book.

“We have ties to Love School so we are always happy to help out in any way we can,” said Brad Swanson from Moonlight Electric. “We were thrilled to partner with the AM Rotary and the Rotary Club of Jamestown to help provide this opportunity for the kids.”
