The public can discover the power of hawks and owls and get a close-up look at them at Audubon Community Nature Center’s Live Hawk and Owl Encounter on Saturday, Nov. 14.

Wild Spirit Education, a wildlife education and rehabilitation organization based in Delevan, will present three programs with their rehabilitated raptors.

This opportunity to see and learn about birds of prey will be full of closer looks at hawks and owls while people learn more about how the predators survive.

One-hour programs will be presented at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 1 p.m., with time in between for sanitizing the room.

Owl pellet and craft kits will be available for sale as part of the event.

The program fee is $8 for adults, $6 for Nature Center members and children 3-15, and free for those two and under. Space is limited, and paid reservations are required. Reservations can be made by calling 569-2345 during business hours or going to AudubonCNC.org and clicking on “Upcoming Programs.”

There will be no admissions at the door, but if the online registration’s waitlist fills, another session will be added in the afternoon.

Audubon’s COVID-19 safety precautions require face coverings for all visitors ages 3 and up for indoor programs. Face coverings are also required outdoors when visitors cannot maintain six feet of distance between family groups.

ACNC is located at 1600 Riverside Road, one-quarter mile east of Route 62 between Jamestown and Warren.

The first floor of the Nature Center building, including the Blue Heron Gift Shop and live animals, is open to the public Mondays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Because not all of the building is accessible, admission is by donation only.

The public is welcome to visit the 600-acre nature preserve from dawn to dusk daily. While practicing safe social distancing measures, visitors can enjoy the grounds and six miles of trails, and view Liberty, Audubon’s non-releasable Bald Eagle.
