Grangers Will Hold Meeting On Aug. 1

Ross Grange has finally been able to have summer meetings with facemasks and social distancing.

Recently, the charter was draped in memory of Doris Overend and Emory Holmquist. Resolutions of of respect were read for them to be sent to their families and placed in the Grange Memorial Book.

Lecturer Betty Wakefield presented a memorial service for John Cheney, Norman Sprague, Dorothy W Sprague, Valerie Bartholemow Violet Engstrom, Doris Overend and Emory Holmquist. In recognition of Flag Day, “The Pledge of Allegience” by Red Skelton was read.

Thank you letters were received from Ellington Farman Library, Falconer Public Library, Fluvanna Free Library and Sinclairville Library for monies given to them. The Blue Star Mothers also acknowledged the donation received. The After Prom/Senior Vigil Committee of Falconer shared that our donation was used to help obtain lawn signs for all graduating seniors.

Both State and National Grange Annual meetings will be abbreviated sessions this year. The State Grange baking contest – scones – will be held in 2021. There will be no County or State Fair this year. All of these affect our members’ activities. Masks and hand sanitizer were received from the County Emergency Services and distributed to those present.

Cards have been signed and sent to various shut-ins. The scholarship committee reported we have funds to give three scholarships this year. A discussion was held on information to be compiled for historical purposes regarding these difficult times.

These included schools, shortages, businesses closed, suicides and overdoses. A complete list will be on file.

The next meeting will be Aug. 10 at 1 p.m. at the Falcon’s Nest Banquet Hall when we will plan a program calendar for next year.
