The United Way of Southern Chautauqua County has received a $5,000 grant from CVS Health supporting its response to the COVID-19 outbreak through the Chautauqua County Crisis Response fund.

The grant is part of more than $1 million CVS Health and its foundations have given to address food insecurity and other community needs in response to the challenges presented by pandemic.

“This grant will be used to support Jamestown Community Learning Council and their efforts to help families with school aged children and under access essential resources like transportation and a working phone or internet,” said Amy Rohler, United Way of Southern Chautauqua County executive director. “We appreciate the support CVS Health has provided United Way to help our community respond to COVID-19.”

The grant will allow the Jamestown Community Learning Council to provide increased direct assistance to families impacted by COVID, meeting needs for transportation, communication and accessing essential resources like diapers and formula through their “Parents As Teachers” home visitor program. The council serves more than 450 families across multiple school districts in Chautauqua County providing educational support and parenting help.

“We know that as a result of the disruption caused by the COVID-19 outbreak, there are many people in the communities we serve who are faced with urgent needs,” said Eileen Howard Boone, senior vice president of corporate social responsibility and philanthropy at CVS Health and president of the CVS Health Foundation. “As part of our ongoing commitment to building healthier communities, we are pleased to be supporting United Way of Southern Chautauqua County and their Crisis Fund to respond to this pandemic.”

The Chautauqua County Crisis Response Fund is administered by the United Way of Southern Chautauqua County on behalf of a coalition of philanthropy, government and business partners including the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation and United Way of Northern Chautauqua County.

To date, the fund has raised more than $887,490 and granted more than $218,000 to 16 organizations on the immediate frontlines of the COVID-19 outbreak.
