James Prendergast Library Encourages Community To ‘Read-In For Literacy’

The James Prendergast Library is encouraging the community to stay home and read this spring, to promote social distancing and the fun of reading. The library is holding an online “Read-In for Literacy,” where participants can submit pictures related to reading.

Participants are invited to submit a picture of the book they’re currently reading, a selfie as they read, a picture of their pet with the current book they are reading, a picture of their favorite reading spot — anything related to staying home and reading will be accepted.

All participants will earn a free book — adults can pick out a free book from the library’s booksale and children can get a new book for free. All participants will also be entered to win one of three prizes, including a gift card to Off the Beaten Path bookstore, a complete set of Harry Potter novels, and a gift basket with a booksale gift certificate and treats to enjoy while reading. All prizes and books will be available for pick up once the library reopens.

Pictures can be submitted via Facebook, by posting on your page and tagging @prendergastlibrary, or pictures can be emailed to reference@cclslib.org. All emailed pictures will also be shared on social media.

In your photo caption, specify the name of the participant – parents are welcome to share their children’s photos using the parent’s social media account. Participants may share more than one photo, but will not earn additional free books or raffle prize entries by doing so.
