Robert H. Jackson Center Hosts Dynel

The Robert H. Jackson Center will host author Linda Dynel on Friday, Oct. 18, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the center’s Cappa Theatre as part of a domestic violence awareness community event, “Domestic Violence: One Woman’s Journey of Survival.”

The event is presented by the Chautauqua County Integrated Domestic Violence Court and the Jamestown City Court-Domestic Violence Part. The program is free and open to the public. To register to attend the free event, email Shelly Little at mllittle@nycourts.gov no later than Oct. 11.

The program will begin at 1:30 p.m. with a presentation by Linda Dynel, author of Leaving Dorian, the story of the day Dynel left her abusive husband. The book has been widely read by domestic violence help center coordinators and directors and is used as training tool for staff as well as a support text with clients. Leaving Dorian has found a home in post-secondary education. In addition to working with college students, Dynel spends much of her time presenting workshops and lectures on her experience with domestic violence to agencies and groups in the community.

Her first novel, Sunrise and the Seven One Six, was released in February 2015. Ms. Dynel lives in Lockport with her husband and children.

Following the presentation is a session on assistance to survivor’s spouses and children by Diana Butcher and Jackie Sasso of the Salvation Army.

The closing session is presented by Gregory White and Sam Yumar of Catholic Charities, entitled “Holding the Offender Accountable.”

Refreshments are provided by the Jamestown Bar Association.
