SHERMAN — The Sherman Historical Society hosted the Sherman Community Church at the Yorker Museum on Sunday for the church’s regular Sunday service.

The service was held in the chapel, one of the six historical buildings at the museum.

Steven Kilburn, Sherman Community Church pastor, responded to an invitation by the Sherman Historical Society to have his congregation visit the museum. The congregation filled the chapel and a few chairs were added to provide seating for everyone.

Victoria Parker and her father, Kenneth Parker, came dressed in appropriate historical costumes. Lorna Parker brought garments for the pastor as well. He decided to wear the typical vest, but declined the heavy long coat due to the warmth of the morning. Their attire made the service even more authentic.

Kilburn pointed out that many churches are no longer used for church services but are being turned into other venues — including museums. He said he was pleased the church could use a museum building for their church service. After the scripture was read, Kilburn reminded the congregation that the historic words of the Bible have been passed through the generations and are still true and relevant today.

The service of scripture, hymns, and a message on Psalm 23 concluded and the congregation enjoyed touring all the buildings on the museum grounds as well as refreshments and fellowship.
