Reg Lenna To Screen ‘The Farewell’

Awkwafina stars in “The Farewell” on Saturday at 8 p.m. and Cate Blanchett stars in “Where’d You Go, Bernadette” on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. at Reg Lenna Center for The Arts.

Admission is $6.

In “The Farewell,” Chinese-born, U.S.-raised Billi — played by Awkwafina of Crazy Rich Asians — reluctantly returns to Changchun to find that, although the whole family knows their beloved matriarch, Nai-Nai, has been given mere weeks to live, everyone has decided not to tell Nai Nai herself.

To assure her happiness, they gather under the joyful guise of an expedited wedding, uniting family members scattered among new homes abroad. As Billi navigates a minefield of family expectations and proprieties, she finds there’s a lot to celebrate: a chance to rediscover the country she left as a child, her grandmother’s wondrous spirit, and the ties that keep on binding even when so much goes unspoken. The Farewell is rated PG and is 98 minutes long.

In “Where’d You Go, Bernadette,” former architect Bernadette Fox seems to have it all — a beautiful home in Seattle, a successful and loving husband, and a brilliant teenage daughter who’s about to attend boarding school.

When Bernadette suddenly disappears without a trace, her concerned family sets off on an exciting adventure to solve the mystery of where she might have gone. The film stars Cate Blanchett (Carol, Cinderella) and is directed by Richard Linklater (Boyhood). “Where’d You Go, Bernadette” is rated PG-13 and is 130 minutes long.

Local filmmaker Matt Swanson presents his feature film Empire on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 8 p.m. Tickets for Empire are $10 for the general public and $8 for cast and crew.

Tickets are available over the phone at 484-7070 or online at reglenna.com. Tickets also available at the Reg box office one hour prior to showtimes. For box office and ticketing hours visit reglenna.com

The Reg Lenna Center for The Arts is located at 116 E. Third St., Jamestown.
