Jamestown PROMISE Fund Advisory Board Chairman John Zabrodsky, delivers rain ponchos to Ring Elementary School. The Jamestown Schools PROMISE Fund donated 415 rain ponchos to all Jamestown schools to protect children in rainy weather. The PROMISE Fund will also be starting a Winter Clothing Drive on October 4th at the JHS Homecoming Football game at Strider Field from 6 p.m. to kick-off. Bring your gently used, or new, winter coats, boots, gloves, hats and scarfs to help Jamestown kids.

The Jamestown Schools PROMISE Fund is donating 415 rain ponchos to all Jamestown Public Schools buildings.

The rain ponchos will be given out by each school to protect children in rainy weather.

The PROMISE Fund is also kicking off its winter clothing drive on Friday, Oct. 4, at the Jamestown High School homecoming football game next to the main entrance gates near the concession pavilion from 6 p.m. to kickoff. Fund officials are asking the community to bring gently used or new winter wear including coats, boots, hats, gloves and scarfs to be given to Jamestown children.

“The objective of our fall drive is to encourage school attendance by providing individual outerwear that will allow students to deal with Jamestown’s autumn, winter and spring seasons,” said John Zabrodsky, Jamestown Promise Fund advisory board chairman. “The kickoff for the drive is providing about 400 rain ponchos so that students can travel to school in a safe and dry manner. We hope the community will continue its generosity by donating the needed items.”

In addition to the kick-off event at JHS Homecoming, the community can drop-off gently used or new winter wear at every Jamestown school in the designated bins through Nov. 4. As well as winter clothing donations, tax-deductible monetary donations will also be accepted and recognized at the kick off.

Checks can be made payable to the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation for the JPS PROMISE Fund.

Any questions on monetary or physical donations can be directed to Chad Bongiovanni, JPS director of student support services, at 483-4387 or email at chad.a.bongiovanni@jpsny.org.

“We are very excited that the Jamestown PROMISE Fund chose to help our children by providing rain ponchos and by holding a Winter Clothing Drive,” Bongiovanni said. “JPS has a great need in our schools for winter clothing, especially winter coats and boots. We also had 1,600 students who were chronically absent last year with a significant increase in absences during the winter months. Not having the proper outerwear in inclement weather is just one reason why children won’t make the walk to school, but an important one. We are very happy that the PROMISE Fund recognizes this need in our district and is helping by providing rain ponchos and the proper winter wear for our children.”

JPS PROMISE Fund was founded in 2016 as a charitable, non-endowment fund via the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation. Its mission is to expand the financial capacity of the Jamestown Public Schools through private, tax-deductible fund-raising activities.

The purpose is to enhance the educational programs, projects, and opportunities for the district. The Jamestown Schools PROMISE Fund has already helped create and fund a summer literacy program in Jamestown and held musical instrument and athletic equipment drives.
