Opera House To Present Area Screening

FREDONIA — The 1891 Fredonia Opera House will present the area premier screening of Widow’s Pont, the latest film from Filmmaker Gregory Lamberson on Friday, Sept. 13, at 7:30 p.m.

Lamberson will be on hand to participate in its screening.

Widow’s Point is the story of a down-on-his-luck author (Craig Sheffer) who spends a weekend locked in a haunted lighthouse as a publicity stunt for a book he is writing about the murders, suicides and disappearances which have occurred at the mysterious location. As he uncovers the lighthouse’s terrifying secrets, sinister forces drive him to the brink of madness. Roughly one-third of the movie was filmed at the Dunkirk Lighthouse in 2018.

The supernatural thriller stars Sheffer (Nightbreed, One Tree Hill) and is based on the critically acclaimed book by New York Times bestselling author Richard Chizmar and his son, Billy. It was adapted for the screen and directed by Lamberson.

Katelynn E. Newberry and Dominic Luongo co-star as Livingston’s associates. Kaelin Lamberson portrays Delaney Collins, the daughter of the lighthouse keeper in 1933, who faces the same evil that targets Sheffer’s character in the present. Willow Xylia Anwar, John Renna, Richard Satterwhite, Amy Hoffman, and Michael Thurber play supporting roles.

“The film takes place primarily in the present,” says Lamberson, “with detours to 1933, 1987, and 2006. The focus is on Craig’s character, and we were lucky to get him as our lead because he delivered a real tour de force performance that people are going to remember.”

At the Opera House, Lamberson will introduce the film and lead a panel talk-back following its screening. Panelists will include Lamberson, Kaelin Lamberson, score composer Armand Petri and the Dunkirk Lighthouse’s Dave Briska.

Lamberson was born in Gowanda, but raised in Fredonia. He has directed or produced more than a dozen films, and written a dozen books including Johnny Gruesome, which was made into a film and released this past October. Widow’s Point was distributed in limited release in late August and was screened at a Film Festival in Virginia at the same time.

Tickets to the film screening are $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and students, and are available at the door only. A portion of the proceeds from this screening will benefit the Dunkirk Lighthouse.

The 1891 Fredonia Opera House is a member-supported not-for-profit organization located in Village Hall in downtown Fredonia. A complete schedule of Opera House events is available at www.fredopera.org.
