Creche Provides Supplies, Backpacks To Area Schools

A grant from the Blossom Fund at the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation helped the Creche Inc. finish another backpack project for local schools.

The Creche was able to provide 400 backpacks to local schools and hundreds of school supplies as well, including binders, composition books, crayons, pencils, erasers, highlighters, ear buds, paper and dividers. Headed by co-chairs Beth Snow and Kari Soffel, the Creche Backpack Committee interviewed area schools to ascertain their needs and from that, compiled a list of items. They applied for a Blossom Grant through the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation and were awarded $2,000 to help fund the project. Gary Evans, president and CEO of the Jamestown Cycle Shop, supplied backpacks. Walmart ordered supplies and set up tables for assembly. Creche volunteers came together to deliver the school supplies for local students.

The Creche Inc. is a local non-profit women’s organization founded in 1900 dedicated to assisting children in need and their families in the greater Jamestown area. For more information on membership and donations, visit Crecheforkids.org.
