Thule Lodge To Host Annual Corn Roast, Chicken Barbecue On Aug. 22 At Falcon’s Nest

FALCONER — Thule Lodge of the Jamestown area will hold its annual corn roast and chicken barbecue on Thursday, Aug. 22, at the Falcon’s Nest in Falconer beginning at 5 p.m. All members and guests are welcome, and invitations will be sent to all members. The roast and the barbecue will be prepared by the 3-C’s of Falconer. During this meal, there will be a membership drive.

Current members will be encouraged to renew their membership for two years at a time for a bargain rate. Past members and new members will also be offered a special membership rate. Following the dinner, the monthly meeting of the lodge will begin at 7 p.m. All are welcome to attend, as the meetings are open to everyone.

At the recent meeting, lodge chairman Tom Eckberg welcomed all to the meeting, and historian John Sipos led everyone in the pledge of allegiance. Chaplain Diane K. Shaw gave the opening invocation. Vice Chairman Susan W. Sipos reported that all officers were in their respective places. A roll call of officers was given by Sipos, who also read the minutes of the previous meeting. Membership chairman Bernice Veights reported on the new members to the lodge.

At the recent Scandinavian Festival held at the Jamestown Community College, Veights had a special display of historical items of the lodge for all to see. A special thanks goes to her for arranging this display. Cultural leader Mary Ann Eva Ingrao reported on the Children’s Dance Team and the Thule dancers. Ms. Ingrao said that the Swedish dances were created to tell a story. A special recognition is being planned for the young children of the Children’s Dance team, and in December the adult dance team will be recognized.

Treasurer Loretta Smith said a recognition program will be held to honor those members of longevity. Some of the current members date back over 70 years. Thule Lodge is now into its 112th year in the Jamestown area.

Following the meeting, a Swedish cake, decorated by Ranee Kaus of Cassadaga was served by John and Susan Sipos. The meeting award was given to Fanchon Fiuller. Shaw and cultural leader Ingrao closed the meeting with an invocation and a Swedish blessing.
