Public Market Continues On Cherry Street

The Jamestown Public Market continues on Cherry Street in Jamestown with a variety of family friendly and unique events and experiences planned for the month of August made possible by 2019 title sponsor, UPMC Chautauqua.

Aug. 10 celebrates both the Lucille Ball Comedy Festival and National Farmers Market week with the return of Karate Sleepover’s Public Market Takeover. Karate Sleepover is a comedy group consisting of Paul Clemente and Jeremy Little. Encompassing all forms of entertainment, Karate Sleepover hosts, performs, and cultivates art all over Jamestown.

During the market, Karate Sleepover will bring their local stand-up comedy routine, with family friendly acts, jokes and more. In addition, Simply Sweet Ice Cream Truck, a local business, will be bringing sweet summer treats to the market. Lucy fans Carrie and Jeff Ketterman will be bringing along their vintage trailer in homage of Lucille Ball.

Aug. 24 marks the annual Children’s Market and 1K Kids Fun Run. Children between the ages of 5 and 12 can register for the event by age group, at no cost, by visiting jamestownrenaissance.org. The annual run will begin at 11 a.m. along Third Street, with pre-registration beginning at 10 a.m.

The Children’s Market will also be hosting a visit from the Buffalo Zoomobile, a traveling hands-on-learning experience offered by the Buffalo Zoo. Using live animals, zoo representatives will offer touchable bio facts and props to teach about a wide variety of topics.

MooCheesy, a local food truck serving burgers and twists on the classic grilled cheese sandwich, will also be at the Aug. 24 event.

Other events planned for the month of August include live musical entertainment, made possible through the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation’s Greater Jamestown Leadership Fund. Musical acts scheduled include: Russell & Hamels, Aug. 3; Mark Mincarellil, Aug. 17; the Larson Family Band, Aug. 24; and Bill Downe, Aug. 31.

The Chautauqua Connections Children’s Coalition continues to sponsor the weekly SPROUTs Club. Children’s activities will be offered throughout the month by the Chautauqua Alcohol and Substance Abuse Council, Audubon Community Nature Center and The Resource Center.

The Jamestown Public Market is open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Cherry Street. The market accepts EBT benefits, credit/debit cards, and participates in the Double Up Food Bucks New York Program, which helps individuals receiving EBT benefits stretch their dollars towards the purchase of fresh fruits and vegetables. For more information on upcoming event programming at the market visit Jamestown Public Market on Facebook or jamestownrenaissance.org.
