Celebrating Sam

Forte, Reg Lenna Center For?Arts To Celebrate Actor’s?Birthday Thursday

Nick Dean and Margaret Kaltenmeier, owner of Forte, and Len Barry of the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts, look on as Mayor Sam Teresi signs a proclamation of Sam Elliott Appreciation Day in 2018.

Forte Restaurant and Reg Lenna Center for The Arts are celebrating the 75th birthday of legendary character actor Sam Elliott on August 9.

Festivities begin at Forte at 5 p.m. with the official kickoff of Sam Elliott Appreciation Day. The event — established by Forte staff in 2017 — includes bar activities, dinner specials and extra stock of Coors Banquet beer. Mustache selfies are encouraged and patrons are invited to take advantage of special Sam Elliott coloring pages and a postcard-creating station.

“Sam Elliott’s appeal spans generations,” said Margaret Kaltenmeier, owner of Forte. “He’s got swagger and an effortless style, entertaining Americans for generations. I can’t imagine a better reason to celebrate someone’s existence!”

At 10 p.m., Reg Lenna Center for The Arts will screen the 1989, two-fisted cult classic Road House. The movie stars the late Patrick Swayze and features a memorable supporting performance from Sam Elliott. In the film, the Double Deuce is the meanest, loudest and rowdiest bar south of the Mason-Dixon Line, and Dalton (Swayze) has been hired to clean it up. He might not look like much, but the Ph.D.-educated bouncer proves he’s more than capable — busting the heads of troublemakers and turning the roadhouse into a jumping hot-spot. But Dalton’s romance with the gorgeous Dr. Clay (Kelly Lynch) puts him on the bad side of cutthroat local big shot Brad Wesley (Ben Gazzara). Sam Elliott appears as Dalton’s mentor, Wade. Road House is rated R and is 114 minutes long. Admission is $5.

The first Sam Elliott Appreciation Day was celebrated in 2017 and followed by a second in 2018 that was officially proclaimed by the City of Jamestown.

Forte and the Reg Lenna Center for The Arts are located at 114 and 116 E. 3rd Street, respectively.
