Harmony Seniors Meet For Chicken BBQ

Harmony Senior Citizens met July 11 for a chicken barbecue catered by All-American Barbeque enjoyed by 56 members and guests.

President Beverly Smith welcomed everyone and Lois King, chaplain, read “The Day the Bells, Rang,” led the flag salute and offered the dinner prayer.

Wendie Raynor read the secretary’s report and Mary Lou Garfield, gave the treasurer’s report. Both reports were approved as read. Eloise Smith reported the following birthday celebrations for July: Bonny Abers, Bonnie Anderson, Chester Stratton and Judy Hampkammer were eldest members present. Anniversaries were celebrated by Pauline and Skip Edsall and Frederick and Laurie Russell.

Dottie Enlow, trip chairperson, stated there is still space available for the trips to Elk Country in Pennsylvania and the Festival of Lights in Canada. Members must sign up in advance.

Members were reminded to begin purchasing items to be donated to the Blue Star Mothers for packages to be shipped to service members at Christmas time. Items should be brought to the November meeting.

The Senior Council dinner social is scheduled for Aug. 14 to be held at the firehall in Stow. Registration will begin at 3 p.m. with entertainment beginning at 3:30 p.m. with the meal being served at 5 p.m. Reservations and payment are a must and need to be received by Aug. 1.

The nominating committee consists of Cindy McIntrye and Dottie Enlow. The nominations for officers will be presented at the August meeting and new offices take over in September.

Musical entertainment was provided by John Hamels from Ripley.

The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 1, at 5 p.m. at the Panama United Methodist Church for a tureen dinner. Members are asked to bring their own table service and a dish to pass. Committee members include Lois King and Cindy McIntrye, with Pauline Edsall in charge of the birthday cake. New members are encouraged to attend.
