Awards Program Honors Students

The Jamestown Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution recognized middle school students from area schools at a recent awards program in the chapter house.

Students were selected for their service, leadership and patriotism. Included were Corinne Inkley, Randolph Central School; Jaydem Lang, Persell Middle School; Daisy Myers, Jefferson Middle School; Bethany Nash, Washington Middle School; Emily Payne, Falconer School; Celeste Roberts, Jefferson Middle School; and Justin Vanstrom, Southwestern Middle School.

Regent Connie Pilato greeted students, parents and relatives with a brief description of the Youth Citizenship program. Dawn Swanson, chapter recording secretary and chairperson of the Youth Citizenship Committee, presented the certificates, gift cards and lapel pins to the students.

Following the award presentation a brief history and tour of the historic Partridge-Sheldon mansion was given. Refreshments were served by Marty Karapantso, Shelly Traver, Gail Dash, Susan Howland, Jill Jarrett, Sharon Peterson, and Cindy Fish.

The next meeting of the Jamestown Chapter DAR is Saturday, Aug. 17, at noon, for a tureen luncheon at the chapter house, 70 Prospect St., Jamestown.

The DAR is a volunteer service organization, founded in 1890, focusing on patriotism, education and historic preservation. Any woman 18 years and older who can prove lineage to a patriot who aided in the American Revolution is eligible for membership. For more information on becoming a member, call 664-4144.
