St Luke’s Episcopal Church will be holding four Kayak Mass/Canoeucharist outings this summer on Chautauqua and Cassadaga lakes.

The dates for the excursions are June 16, July 7, Aug. 18 and Sept. 8, with launch sites to be determined near the day of each event to accommodate weather conditions.

The events are open to anyone, regardless of religious affiliation. Paddlers are invited to join the launch at 4 p.m. The excursion will begin with a group paddle and will conclude with a communion service on the lake. The two-hour paddle outings are suitable for all levels of experience. The events are family friendly and novice paddlers are especially welcome.

The Kayak Mass/Canoeucharist has become an annual tradition on the lake for the paddlers from St. Luke’s. St. Luke’s has a history of connecting with the community, promoting fun, fitness, and faithfulness with events such as this as well as its Services on the Slopes, Loop the Lake bike rides and last fall’s Fitness 101 workshop.

“Spiritual wellness and physical wellness are both very important to everyone,” said the Rev. Luke Fodor, rector of St. Luke’s. “I believe that it is the church’s obligation to support its members on every level. Combining physical activity with worship is not only fun, it helps an individual to become more well-rounded.”

Participants should bring their own canoes, kayaks, or paddleboards. There will also be a limited number of rentals available through Evergreen Outfitters, which will deliver the kayaks and equipment to the launch site. Anyone interested in renting should contact Evergreen in advance at 763-2266.

Reservations are not required, but paddlers are asked to contact the church office at 483-6405 the Friday before each service, so that they can communicate the launch site and any changes in plans.
