Reading Program Starts June 24

Prendergast Library announced that “A Universe of Stories,” is coming to the library this summer. This year’s Summer Reading Challenge is all about exploration and discovery, with space and science themed programming.

The library hopes to help kids maintain their reading skills and avoid the “summer slide” with the summer reading challenge. Programming begins June 24 and runs through Aug. 17, with the grand finale event on Aug. 24.

This year, reading logs are available early, so stop by today to pick them up! Logs are available all summer long — kids can start the challenge at any point in the summer.

Children, teens, and adults are all welcome to participate in this year’s challenge. With each reading log completed, children and teens receive a free book and a grand prize entry. Adults earn a grand prize entry for each book they read. The grand prizes this year for children are two bikes and a Lego set. Teens can compete for a $25 VISA gift card and an art set, and the prize for adults is a $25 VISA gift card.

Children and teens can also earn grand prize entries and free books by completing in-library activities. The library will feature a variety of activities in the Children’s Room and the Makerspace each day, such as arts and crafts, games, and outer space themed projects.

The library will also have expanded programming for all ages throughout the summer. For more information on summer programs and the Summer Reading Challenge, visit prendergastlibrary.org or call 484-7135 ext. 234.
