Predergast Library Announces Summer Reading Program

The Prendergast Library has announced its Summer Reading programming for 2019, including space-themed activities and a new sensory playtime in the Makerspace.

Regular storytimes continue on Tuesday and Wednesday. Storytime at the library include early literacy tips for parents, songs, stories, and time for social play.

First Years Storytime runs on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. for children from birth to three years, and Early Learning Storytime on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. for children ages three to five. These age groups are flexible, and older and younger siblings are always welcome at storytime.

Starting Monday, June 24, the library will also offer Preschool Makerspace on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays at 10:30 a.m. Preschool Makerspace will include sensory play aimed at building skills in science, technology, engineering, art and math. Activities are recommended for children ages 6 and under, but all ages are welcome.

Regular afternoon programming continues all summer from 3:30-5 p.m., with Minecraft Club on Mondays and Makerspace activities Tuesday through Friday. This year’s summer reading theme is a “universe of stories” and activities in the Makerspace will include balloon rockets, green screen space pictures, and moonwalk stop animation.

All ages are welcome at these free programs, and there is no registration required. For more information on the Summer Reading Challenge and library programming, visit prendergastlibrary.org or call 484-7135 ext. 234.
